The holiday season is, for some,  the happiest and busiest time of the year. Between visiting with family and friends and attending holiday parties, your calendar can fill up with fun get away from home activities. Unfortunately, some people think it's a great time to take advantage of an "empty house" and you can become a target for a home invasion.

In 2018 alone nearly 10 million Americans reported stolen packages from their home during the holiday season and those numbers have increased in the last several years. If you haven't been thinking about reliable home security, it may be time to give it some serious thought. Begin by asking yourself, “Is my home safe while I’m out shopping or attending holiday events?”

We recommend that you do not wait until the last minute to make sure your home is secure. When fall arrives, it's a great time to hire a locksmith to come out and get your locks inspected. An experienced locksmith knows which locks make you more vulnerable to break-ins due to being outdated, old or even slightly damaged and in need of lock repair or lock replacement. A trained locksmith can help identify possible weak points in your home's security.

Not only do we recommend consistently locking your doors, but also your windows. These should be locked year-round whenever you are away from your home. Inspect any locks on the windows that may be broken and in need of repair. Inspect the screens to make sure they are installed properly and not torn or damaged.

We also recommend that you consider putting a security lock on your house or a lockbox outside the residence for emergency situations. The holiday season can be so hectic you may find yourself  accidentally locked out of your home in all the holiday hustle and bustle.  And if you're hosting holiday parties at your residence,  it’s always a good idea to designate part of your home as off-limits to all guests by locking doors for rooms such as your master bedroom, or rooms in which you place valuables or safes. Using locks during parties will prevent nosy guests from wandering around your home or going through your belongings.

At Ty’s 303 Locksmith, we’ve helped many homeowners protect their homes and valuables. We feel it is a privilege to help you secure your home and protect the people that you love too.
